Holst tried to have his musical cake & eat it, too: the brief for The
Planets was astrological; but he included both Uranus & Neptune, both
of which were telescopic discoveries & therefore without historical
astrological significance.  I would agree, though, that aesthetically
the suite as written - from the fury of Mars to the mystic wanderings
of Neptune - has little obvious need of completion, Pluto/Charon or
no Pluto/Charon....
