As Jane Erb has just called attention to it, Aspen is offering a
mini-festival -

   Forbidden Music: Conscientious Objectors
   June 27-July 1

   Numerous World War II-era composers lifted pens and voices
   to oppose the Nazi regime, Karl Amadeus Hartmann refused to
   allow German performances of his work-though he himself was
   German.  Hungarian composer Erno Dohnanyi tried to protect
   Jewish musicians from Nazi purges, only to find himself accused
   of Nazi sympathies.  The second in a three-year Forbidden
   Music series, "Conscientious Objectors" pays tribute to artists
   who prized humanity over conformity, and freedom over fascism.
