Lumina String Quartet Presents Chamber Music Institute for Young
Musicians  - August 8 to 21 in Stamford, Connecticut

The Lumina String Quartet has announced plans for their 2005 Chamber
Music Institute for Young Musicians.  The Institute programs will be
given in Stamford, Connecticut from August 8 to August 13 and from August
15 to August 20.

This years' Institute will be the seventh annual program given by the
quartet.  Young string players, ranging in age from 11 to 20, auditioned
competitively for admission to the program and were placed in 14 different
quartet configurations.  They will be coached by the Lumina String Quartet
for one week and will work to master all four movements of a major work
by a great composer.

Public concerts will be given on August 14 and August 21, 3 PM each day
at Rich Forum, 307 Atlantic Street in Stamford, Connecticut.  Each of
these Sunday afternoon concerts will feature seven young string quartets
playing works by such masters as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Tchaikovsky,
Borodin and Dvorak.

This project was made possible in part through public funding from the
City of Stamford, Dannel Malloy, Mayor, to encourage and promote the
arts.  The Stamford Cultural Development Corporation (SCDC), as the
officially designated arts service organization for Stamford, manages
the Community Art Partnership Program by means of private funding from
local corporations and individuals and the Stamford Center for the Arts
(SCA) Reach Out Program.

Members of the Lumina String Quartet include Asya Meshberg (violin),
Lynn Bechtold (violin), Boris Deviatov (viola), and Jennifer DeVore
(cello).

Founded in 1992, the Quartet is ensemble-in-residence at Norwalk
Community College.  True to its name, Lumina has continued to enlighten
audiences in the tri-state area and has appeared in music festivals
throughout Europe and central Asia.  Their most recent appearances were
at the Europe/Asia Festival 2005 in Kazan, Russia.  Read their trip diary
