In a recent Sunday Times there was comment to the effect that the unhappy
relationship between the BBCSO and Slatkin is one of the worst kept
secrets of London's musical life. Why is there a problem? Surely it
can't be Slatkin's comments a couple of years ago about woman violinist's
needing to cover their arms? Slatkin was interviewed for desert island
discs and came accross as a decent chap.

Have there been other famous examples of tensions between orchestras and
their maestros?

Just wondering.
