For Mussorgsky songs, I strongly recomend Sergei Leiferkus cycle on Conifer
if still availible - stunning is the word.

For the "pictures" - I cant seriously recomed Beroff as I have not heard
it, but I hardly think that it can better Nikolai Demidenko on Hyperion or
the famous Sviatoslav Richer live recording made in Sofia 1958, but with
the latter one has to stand both an appaling audience and som realy lousy
sound quality...
