Santu provided his personal list of the top 25 conductors, unranked, and
recommended that others follow suit. Having no problem with "lists", I'll
go with this flow except I'm ranking the 25:

1. Gardiner
2. Harnoncourt
3. Mackerras & King
4. Davis
5. Giulini
6. Rattle
7. Herreweghe
8. Boulez
9. Bohm
10.Furtwangler
11.Karajan
12.Bernstein
13.Nagano
14.Goebel
15.Pinnock
16.Alessandrini
17.Klemperer
18.Solti
19.Barenboim
20.Christie
21.Norrington
22.MTT
23.Gergiev
24.Knussen
25.Walter

This represents my personal preferences, and obviously tends to correspond
to the music I listen to the most. Sorry if I seem to minimize the
conductors of the past, but there are so many great ones active now. Also,
I must apologize for my "duo" as number three. I totally forgot about
Robert King when I made the list, so I added him where I felt he belonged.
