With reference to cutting and pasting after recording sessions, David

I understand that when Dorian makes a recording, they essentially tell the
performers, "Play it as often as you like.  We'll stay here until you get
it right." Artists perform in a grand but sparse room with two microphones
suspended from the ceiling, and I'm told the experience is a bit daunting.
I suspect John Atkinson and company who do the recordings for Stereophile
have a similar philosophy, although they generally record live
performances.
