I haven't noticed any recent differences, athough I don't often buy DG
orchestral discs. Just yesterday, I read a review in Fanfare of Abbado's
new Dvorak 9th; there weren't any negative comments about the sound
quality.

I would like to mention that Decca's piano sound has improved greatly in
recent years. In the past, piano recordings for Ashkenazy, Schiff, Roge,
etc., tended toward a tubby and "ping-like" sound which wasn't to my
liking. Those two problems appear to have been corrected.
