Mel Torme Passes on 6/5/99

An announcement at the Boston Pops concert this evening revealed that
jazz vocalist Mel Torme died today.  Having taken the art of Scat Singing
to a pinnicle, Torme was also an accomplished arranger especially in the
genre of classical American popular song of Gershwin, Kern and Porter.
My factual information is limited and leave the details of his
accomplishments for later reports.
