Joshua Pierce Plays Britten, Milhaud and Richard Strauss with the Slovak
Sinfonietta of Zilina - Performance on January 22 with Maestro Kirk
Trevor

Joshua Pierce will be guest soloist on January 22, 2004 with the Slovak
Sinfonietta of Zilina, under the direction of Kirk Trevor, in performances
of Benjamin Britten's "Young Apollo", Darius Milhaud's "Le Carnival
d'Aix" (Fantasie for Piano and Orchestra) and Richard Strauss"s "Le
Bourgeoise Gentihomme." These three works are also being recorded for
CD release later this year.

Joshua Pierce and Kirk Trevor have collaborated frequently in concert
and in the recording studio, the most recent being the Kleos Classics
release "For The Fun Of It All", with music of Addinsell, Chopin, Gershwin,
Saint-Saens, Paul Turok, Weber-Liszt and Henri Litolff recorded with the
Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra of Bratislava.  You can find more about

Grammy nominated pianist Joshua Pierce has performed in prestigious music
centers throughout the world as a soloist and with an extraordinary array
of orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia,
Symphony Orchestra of Russia, Moscow State Philharmonic, Berlin Radio
Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra.  He has
recorded nearly 200 works including numerous world premieres as a soloist
and with orchestra for EMI Classics, Carlton Classics, Helicon, Koch
International Classics, MMC, Phoenix, Pro Arts, Sony Classics, Vox and
other labels.  His landmark series of recordings of John Cage's music
on the Wergo label has earned him tremendous acclaim worldwide.  His
25-year collaboration with the pianist Dorothy Jonas, as part of the
two-piano team, Pierce & Jonas, has resulted in numerous acclaimed

The Slovak Sinfonietta of Zilina is one of the best known professional
orchestras in Eastern Europe and holds a very important position in
Slovak musical culture.  It was founded in 1974 as the only "Mozart-style"
orchestra in Slovakia.  Since then the orchestra has attained a prominent
position in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as considerable
international renown.  In the course of its activities for 27 years the
orchestra has had a very intensive artistic life. Its 35 members are
mainly graduates of the Academies of Music in Prague, Brno and Bratislava
and many of them are winners of international competitions and active
