In a reply Deryck Barker wrote about the Mravinsky/Leningrad recording:

Throwing my 2 cents worth in, I have to say that the recording in question
changed my whole appreciation of Tchaikovsky. For those who associate the
composer with beautiful tunes bordering on treacle, I recommend this
recording on Erato. It is beautiful in the way that a storm battered coast
is beautiful rather than say, an English rose garden.
