How Wagnerian was Mahler? Henry Louis de la Grange will speak on Gustav
Mahler's interesting preoccupation with Wagner and Mahler's considerable
efforts to promote Wagner's operas in Vienna and beyond.  He will
illustrate with rare slides.

De la Grange is a co-founder of the Bibliotheques Musicale Gustav
Mahler in Paris, which he started in 1986 by contributing his own extensive
collection of books, recordings, periodicals, and personal archives.  He is
an internationally renowned biographer of Mahler.  The third volume of his
monumental biography of the composer is "Gustav Mahler:  Vienna:  Triumph
and Disillusion (1904-1907)." It will be published in English in May 2000
by the Oxford University Press.
