Americas Vocal Ensemble Presents Songs by Gunhild Glass

AVE will perform 11 songs by Gunhild Glass, and other works from its
repertory on Sunday, March 11, 2001 at 3:00pm in The Lounge, Building
B at Hudson View Gardens, 116 Pinehurst Avenue in Washington Heights.

Vocal music by Gunhild Glass will be featured in works that provide elegant
settings for the poetry of Garcia Lorca. These charming and profound
songs, which have long been part of the repertory of the Americas Vocal
Ensemble, will be presented along with several new pieces to be premiered
in this program.

The concert will also include works by Argentinians Carlos Guastavino and
Astor Piazzolla, Luis Antonio Escobar of Colombia, and Spanish composer
Enrique Granados.

The Americas Vocal Ensemble, directed by Nelly Vuksic, has enjoyed
praise from local and international press such as the New York Times,
Washington Post, and Bogota's El Tiempo, for their impeccable technique,
musicianship and effective interpretation of Latin American classical
music. They have appeared in NYC at Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital
Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Inter-American Music
festival. They have also performed on National Public Radio, and
on WQXR in New York. The Americas Vocal Ensemble's webpage is at
http://www.jamesarts.com/aveflyer.htm.

Gunhild Glass was born in Panama and spent most of her childhood in Vienna,
where she began piano studies at an early age. She graduated from the
Oberlin Conservatory of Music, then returned to Vienna, where she studied
the harpsichord with the renowned Gustav Leonhardt. A former Musical
Director for several theater companies, she has also performed most notably
in Vienna and New York. Currently, Ms. Glass is engaged in full-time
private piano instruction and composing; she is also a resident of Hudson
View Gardens.

Nelly Vuksic, a native of Argentina, is a noted scholar of Latin American
choral music. She is actively involved in the New York music scene as the
Ensemble's founder and director, as Music Director of the United Nations
Singers, and as a conductor, singer, voice teacher and music educator.

Tickets are $15; part of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the
Hudson View Gardens Performance Arts Group Piano Purchase Fund.
