For those who may be interested, the Phila. Inquirer reviews the 12CD
centennial set of Phila. Orch. recordings. The article can be found at:

   http://www.phillynews.com/inquirer/99/Oct/10/arts_and_entertainment/

Two snippets from the article:

Pianist William Kapell is captured in a 1945 Carnegie Hall recording
of the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor - a work he never
recorded commercially, according to the project's artistic adviser,
   Mark Obert-Thorn.

And who remembers Michael Rabin, the Ivan Galamian student who died
in 1972 at age 35? A 1961 recording of the American violinist in the
Tchaikovsky concerto, with William Smith conducting, reveals a major
   talent.
