The earliest stereo recordings I know of were made by Stokowski in 1932
(IIRC) as part of a Bell Labs experiment. Alan Blumlein of EMI was also
experimenting in England at around the same time.

I don't believe there is a single inventor.

There are a few genuine stereo recordings made in Germany during WWII,
including the finale of Bruckner 8 (Karajan) and a complete Emperor
Concerto - I can never remember the pianist/conductor but am told that
the sound of anti-aircraft fire can clearly be heard.
