Being a string quartet fan, I'd definitely buy a Macfarren disc covering
this area. I often find that I appreciate a composer's string quartets
and other chamber works more than the orchestral variety.

Although I previously indicated that I was not very pleased with the
CPO Macfarren disc of symphonies, I haven't yet put it in my "might never
listen again" closet. It is in a "prime listening" area, so I'll give it
a another hearing or two. Sometimes, going back to a recording after a
break of a few months (or years) is very rewarding.
