Don Satz asked:

>I'm not familir with Atterberg's music; any opinions?

I'm particularly fond of his second and third symphonies, both on
Swedish Society, availability unknown. They're melodic, late Romantic,
interestingly orchestrated. I don't find the first and fourth on Sterling
as interesting, and IMHO the fifth and sixth don't achieve the same
standard as the third. I've yet to hear a recent recording of the 7th and
8th on Bis. Most relevant perhaps is a short suite for violin, viola and
strings which is quite beautiful and sounds much like Sibelius. I haven't
heard either of the concertos, Don, but I'd much like to, and Sterling's
easier to get where you are. Let us know what you think:-)

Further to my earlier hurried post, I got a couple of things wrong.
Atterberg's 3rd is on Caprice 21364, coupled with his horn concerto. His
7th and 8th are on Sterling, not Bis. I read a review of this somewhere,
possibly Len Mullenger's site, and it sounded most enticing. I hope I've
re-established my credibility, such as it is.
