Seems like I've done nothing but read about musicians passing on this
week, first Ruth Laredo and now George Rochberg:

RIP George Rochberg

He's one of the recent American composers to whose music I have felt
particularly close, ever since I was blown away by the Composers Quartet
recording of his Third String Quartet. And following that there have
been a string of wonderful works like the Caprice Variations played so
stunningly by Zvi Zeitlin, and the Violin Concerto. I traveled many
miles, twice, to hear Isaac Stern play it, and was delighted, but when
the recording of the original version - sans the cuts urged by Stern -
played by Peter Sheppard Skaerved came out a year or so ago. It was
like a whole new piece, and a much stronger one. My review of that
recording is here: <http://snipurl.com/f9p4>http://snipurl.com/f9p4
