OK -- I'll bite.  For me it was the Tchaikovsky B-flat minor piano
concerto followed almost immediately by the 4th symphony.  These 78
rpm record albums were given to me by my grandfather when I was between
8 and 10 years old.  I played them on a hand-cranked Victrola.  The
collection was soon augmented by the Beethoven Emperor and the Archduke
Trio.  I wore the grooves right off of those old disks.  Wonderful stuff!
I think it was the Tchaikovsky more than anything that made me want to
be a composer.  That shows how dangerous these things can be!
