Well, there are several.  Some old standards are of course Albert
Schweitzer's time honored tome, and Phillip Spitta's.  Recently, Harvard
Scholar and Bach specialist Christoff Wolff has penned an outstanding new
book called Johann Sebastian Bach, the Learned Musician.  I have begun to
read it and cannot put it down.  Wolff has an excellent collection of
essays on various Bach topics that is a great reference, but not really a
sit-down-and-read-it kind of book.
