My favorite recording of this work is Leonard Bernstein's first recording
with the New York Philharmonic and such luminaries as Eileen Farrell and
Kim Borg.  I find most interpretations way too reverent, while I like the
vulgarity of the work.  Bernstein turns it into a proto-Verdi Requiem, and
that's just fine by me.  Sparks fly.
