Allen, it's my impression that the Beebook is more for guidance for
standardization and a chance to share gained knowledge, rather than to
limit methodology.  It is a working document, subject to revision.
 However, it helps researchers to compare and replicate studies, and points
out errors to avoid.  It's mostly a state of the art assessment of our
learning curve.
