And I forgot to mention that it may depend on the hive configuration.  I use 3 deeps for the broodnest, no excluder, and then several supers on top.  When I use open screen boards, the bottom deep often has very little brood.  When I block the screen boards, the queen will often lay down throughout the bottom deep.
