It could be restricted movement, higher percentage of introductions from  
countries where N. apis is still more common, maybe climate - all just  
guesses.
 
However, the mixing of bees from north to south, east to west in the U.S.  
provides plenty of opportunities for democratic dispersal of pathogens.
