Another paraphrase comes to mind – “There are more things in beekeeping, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”


Jerry,  there are certainly a few who only keep bees for fun,  but if you think honeybees are in decline now,  if you took those who were not in in it for honey or money out of the equations there would just about none left...  even most hobbyist expect honey production.  I do find it interesting that for many 10-20 lbs a year is a win,  and for others anything less than 100 is a dink.....

Peter is right on,  the vast majority of us have expectations of our hives that do not match the ideal of TF varroa resistant bees at the moment!
