You would be suprised at the degree to which genetically modified crops have
invaded the US market. With over 20 years of unregulated and unwatched
growth, it would be very difficult in most parts of the US to label your
honey as "not genetically modified". When I checked the current list of
trees available through our state forestery department (for reforesting and
xmas tree farms), they even list the only black walnut tree variety
available as genetically modified (along with several others in the
catalog) -- I have many black walnuts growing here naturally and no pest
problems, large crops, etc (although, of course, difficult to remove). It
is hard to imagine what genetic modification was necessary for black walnuts
and harder to understand why that is the only choice being distributed.

With no real control over the GM status of crops and trees planted within
the 3-5 mile radius from the house (which includes several apple orchards,
few field crops but some lumber areas), even in a non-traditional
agricultural area, I could not assure the public my honey contained no
GM-modified nectar or pollen (esp if anyone close by grows any kind of
corn).
