Thank you Greg for your comments about Google Translate.  It is really good to hear about your experience with the service.   I have had a look round translate.google.com and find that there are quite a lot of languages supported and this may help out some other people on this list .....  It will certainly encourage me to be a bit more adventurous.

I would guess that scientific or medial terms are not an issue for European language translation since they typically have a Latin root which is common to many languages but to leave the English term where it is not clear may also be an effective way of communicating.
