Radio collared black bears have been know to travel 50-100 air miles in less 
than 24 hours.
I worked with grizzlies for 5 seasons.  We had a bear that would move about 
50 air miles over night in responce to the grazing range opening for sheep. 
Some how that bear new when lunch was served.  He managed to stay out of the 
sheep herders gun sights for 14 years, feeding on sheep all summer long.  I 
would not rule out a bear.  If it is a bear there will be tooth and claw 
marks in the wood.
