One thought I've had on this is inspired by a graph in the Gould and Gould honeybee book.

The graphs show dance language analysis of different races of honeybee..and shows that "dialects" are a bit different. Same dance moves..same meanings....but the relative durations varied between the races.

This is not an area I'm well versed in, so I don't have any way to evaluate the quality of the data....but perhaps there is a "tower of Babble" effect at play...that they are stressed from not being able to understand one another properly.
