I've heard it suggested several times in the past that feral colonies can be a source of foulbrood.  It has puzzled me since I have not removed a single feral colony with clinical symptoms of foulbrood.  [I let the brood from feral combs emerge before melting the comb down not because I fear foulbrood but because bees draw out better combs from scratch.]  None of the feral colonies I've hived showed foulbrood.

Is there any documented evidence that ferals outsource foulbrood?  I think negligent beekeepers are the main source.
