Sugar syrup is not super-saturated like honey and does not have its natural antibiotic qualities.  That means you must keep your sugar syrup using the same food-safety standards that you would use for your own food.  Below 40 F or above 140 F are the general rules of thumb.  
 
Better still in my opinion, since you're only mixing up 12 lbs at a time, get a hive-top feeder and put it all on the hive at once.  That way you don't have to store anything at all.  Let the bees take care of it.
