I wonder if the insulating qualities that insulated top produces would have an adverse affect for us down south and our problems with SHB.  They recommend that hives be placed in the full sun down here to help combat the SHB problem.   Seems the heat at the top of the hive helps drive the beetles down where the bees can have better control over them.  At least, that would be my assumption.
