Or does it have to do with viruses, etc?  I'm not sure that it is important
to separate.

One thing to keep in mind is the common experience of stock that appears
"resistant" to varroa in one area may get eaten alive by mites in another,
so the regional virulence of mites and viruses may well be an important
factor.
