Allen and I often talk about controlling the variables in a trial and I see
little promise in trying to see what really happened since there are so many
variables with the use of extender patties, not the least of which are home
grown patties.Just something as simple as controlling the dose, with the
arbitrary way bees take in patties, is variable and difficult to control. So
they may have high or low dosage rather than just right.

One thing that is similar is when Apistan was introduced it was postulated
that it had a life of about ten years, since that was the experience of
those in the pesticide business with different pesticides, especially when
they were used in a general fashion, by themselves, and not as a part of an
IPM program. OTC, before extender patties, was used more as a cure than a
prophylactic. It stayed effective for a long time, much longer than ten
years. Extender patties were used more like Apistan, as a cure and
preventative and every year if needed or not. So why are we surprised that
resilience developed just like Apistan?
