Once upon a time you could get pollen tubes. There were ordinary test tubes 
 but with a narrower section for the bottom inch or so to concentrate the  
sediment and make it less likely to be poured off when you removed the 
solution  above it.  Or if you wanted to suck it up with a pipette you would get 
more  per suck.
