"At some times of year pollen patties are only consumed close to the brood
and at others, I am told, they can be fed in the supers or entrance.  (I
have no direct personal observation to prove whether they are consumed or
simply removed in these situations)."

 

Nobody told me that bees only eat pollen patties when they're put in the
brood chamber, so I have always put them on the topmost bars of the hives
because that's easiest for me.  My bees finish off a pollen patty that's one
or two boxes above the brood in a couple of days.
