My interpretation is that SHB is an indicator of a hive that needs beekeeper
adjustments, perhaps self-limiting, not  a primary pathogen.


Why not interrupt the reproductive cycle of the SHB externally? Cover the
ground perimeter of the hives with plastic sheeting or AstroTurf?  The SHB
larvae can crawl a good distance but 15 ft  might be a substantial deterrent
to in its life cycle, as well as keep the area around the hives clean and
provide a uniform display surface to monitor crawlers, DWV and paralysis
behavior.
