I spent some hours two weeks ago trying to confirm such figures, after an
author published for the Sierra Club. I asked him for his sources, and had
difficulty confirming the calcs.

One problem is whether one is dealing with sales (which would include the
vast amount of unused pesticides in the backs of sheds and garages) or
actual usage.

Another other is breaking out the amounts used on golf courses, parks,
industrial landscaping, and city maintenance departments.
