The boards are useful, not only for counting Varroa but, more importantly, for seeing what else falls. The Swindon Honeybee Conservation Group, led by the venerable Ron Hoskins, has been selecting for colonies that exhibit hygienic behaviour by detecting and removing Varroa afflicted pupae. The main clue is finding white pupal antennae amid the debris on the floor.

For more information, including photos, wade through the Swindon Honeybee Conservation Group website.
