Don't know about others, but I had my first run in with a bear this year. 
Fortunately hives were only tipped over  and one destroyed.  Was told it was 
a young bear.  I got a Large solar unit ($189.00) at the local farm store 
good for 10 miles being used on 3 strands about a 20' square.  It was 
pushing 4000v not fully charged and hive are still standing-for what it is 
worth.
