Dear Jerry,

Regarding your message, part quoted here:

"1) For anyone 'musing' about pesticides and how to study, you need to
start with a proper background concerning variables, interactions, how
traditional assays have been conducted, as well as the historical and yearly
publications comparing pesticide toxicities, residual effects, field weathering,
etc. which no longer occurs since Universities have gotten out of the
pesticide testing for label registration and extension services no longer have
easy access to the data needed to provide the comparative data updates.

Go buy a copy of Carl Johansen and Dan Mayer's Pollinator protection: a
bee & pesticide handbook, 1990.
You can get it from Wicwas. Read all 200+ pages, then we can return to
the discussion/musings. "

Thank you! This and the rest of your message was really valuable reading and most helpful. I will certainly check out this reference.

Also, I am busy checking definitions for what I thought were common concepts...I now see that there must be different definitions 'out there'. Sometimes our various science disciplines stray from what originated as a common thread, it is worthwhile to review where we are and re-align on a regular basis.

I have recently had first-hand experience being invited to "review" articles for a couple of these new and dubiously "peer-reviewed" publications you alluded to. Yikes. You are exactly right about that.

And, hats off to all you hard-working commercial beekeepers out there, from a "lab rat" ecological/developmental physiologist.

Sincerely,

Christina
