when I used the MitewayII pads in the fall, I put the pad with a spacer between the second and third brood chamber, followed the directions for their use and they worked fine.  One thing to remember was I was doing this in the fall so the upper brood chamber was usually full of honey. I have not had any luck with the quick strips in any configuration.
