There is absolutely no need for such sarcastic self deprecation.

The ability to think scientifically has nothing to do with degrees nor
occupation.
What is important here is that we use the "scientific method" of
investigation--sticking to facts and accurate observations, proposing
hypotheses, and then testing them in controlled trials.

The last is where beekeepers typically fall down--they don't run a control
group in their trials of products or methods.  Without a control group, you
can't learn whether the treatment was any better than not doing anything!

This is why I am so sticky when I ask beekeepers about details.

Neither Langstroth, Doolittle, or Miller were professional scientists.  But
they were all great scientists in their observations and experiments, and
as such are now considered to be monumental figures in beekeeping.

This Informed Discussion list is a chance for we beekeepers to discuss and
debate the science of beekeeping, no matter what letters one puts after
their name.  If you exhibit clear scientific thinking, your thoughts and
findings will be accepted at the highest levels, and can be of great
practical value for beekeepers everywhere.
