Chris, do you pull honey? if so its not the bees fault if they starve and
you dont feed, its the beekeepers fault by introducing a problem. I
understand that if you dont pull honey its the bees fault, assuming youve
given them enough space.

I have heard this too many times from new beeks, "if the bees cant make it I
dont want them" or some fashion of that. But the first year packages and
nucs are not natural and typically come later in the season, for the second
year many pull the surplus and the bees starve during a hard summer becuase
of the belief bees should survive by themselves. The bees might have done
just fine if johnny beekeeper
would have left that honey on the hive...

So IMO if you pull honey you have the responsibilty to feed if needed
because you have thrown a monkey wrench into the bees survival mechinism...

But thats my opinion based on what I see from beeks newer than me.
