Most foundation in the UK is 5.4 I believe.
>What is your typical coldest winter temperature?
That will vary considerably across the UK, but here the coldest I recorded
last winter was only -5ēC; that was not particularly cold, but it was cold
and wet for a very long time with no spring at all. The summer then hit us
during the last week in May. With last summer a total write-off our bees
had virtually a year of adverse weather.
From memory, the coldest that I ever recorded was about -22ēC, but that was
some years ago, probably 1981.
Probably the worst thing is the complete unpredictability of the UK weather
due to our position.
