If you add bees to the already complicated mix of varroa mites and  
viruses, the outcomes become even more complex.  This paper shows that  
adult bees detect and remove brood infected with a high replicating  
strain of DWV, and do not do the same with other less virulent  
strains.  Through social immunity bees can also rid the colony of the  
highly virulent form of the virus.
