Thanks for the tips, I will certainly give them a try.  I like freebees
afterall.  I read someone else (I think Odfrank actually) used a similar
slurry for a lure, I'll have to try that one.  Hopefully the landmark thing
helps too.

I did buy/read HoneyBee Democracy, and am aware of the size preference,
still an excellent book.  I make my nucs with a 3/8inch lip that inserts to
the one below it so they seal up better and don't slide around.  Since they
are double deckers they still have the same volume as a medium or a deep,
but are easier to handle.  I thought they'd be easier to hang, but if I
stop climbing up trees there's probably no reason to switch.  I know a lot
of people use 5framers, but I wonder if they work because they have more
africanized bees, or just that there are fewer nesting sites where they are
at.

I'll let you know how the year goes, hopefully it starts warming up soon.
