I agree that  most of the time, the bees are going to be blind to a  
treatment - that is until they learn to read or understand human language.
 
But, the observer needs to be blind - too many trials and publications show 
 a bias - despite most of us being trained to test the null hypothesis.
 
In many subtle ways, if the observer, analyst, field crew - anyone in the  
chain of data collection knows about the treatments, the data can be  
compromised.  
 
Years of EPA Superfund work and court cases were my training ground, and I  
understand the importance of doing work by Good Laboratory Practices and  
periodic independent training/refresher courses.  Many dismiss GLP as being  
an annoyance or too expensive, but it documents what was done, puts in place 
 some safeguards, and helps keep us all honest.
