What is somewhat baffling is that you can hear in the same discussion: 

1) just keep the mites under control and the bees will be healthy. 

2) I kept the mites under control and the bees died anyway. 

3) none of the controls works well, or the way it's supposed to.

I don't think anyone really has a handle on this
