It seems to me that Deborah's question has been answered regarding varroa ....
what she did mention in one of her posts that could be another answer to absconding is the difference in the bees surrounding due to unusually loud noise  that was happening at that time. I don't remember exactly what she said concerning that but couldn't that cause the absconding too?
